Nationals Remain in First, Sweep Oakland, Pick up Players in Draft

Draft:
The first player to be drafted by Nationals (as the Nationals), with the fourth pick of the draft, turned out to be a relatively local player. Third baseman (and high school short-stop) Ryan Zimmerman, of the University of Virginia and of Virginia Beach, quickly signed a contract with the team as he wanted to play immediately (he will join the AA team). The GM notes that he "wouldn't be afraid to call Zimmerman up to the big leagues this year." Story, and Story.
48 players in all were drafted by the Nationals, with the team only planning on signing 8 of them.

Sweep Series:
Hernandez won his ninth game of the year, and the Nationals have now won seven of their last 10 games. Game recap.

First Place:
With their sweep of the Oakland team the Nationals remain in first, 1.5 games up over 2nd place Philies (and 3.5 over last place Marlins). The team is at a season high 8 games over .500.

News:
Byrd suspended for two games. Vidro news.

Church NL Rookie for May.
Church hit .377 for the month. Story.

Tonight's Game:
Three game series against Seattle begins tonight at 7:05 pm tonight. Last time the two teams meet, Seattle swept the series last year. Hopefully this season, with the Nationals in first 8 games over .500, and the Mariners 8 games below .500, the Nationals will not allow themselves to be swept.

Ohka (4-3, 3.33 era) will face Pineriro (2-3, 6.33 era). Story. Stat Pack.
